Authentically You

By choosing a custom hat, you’re engaging in a creative process that will leave you with a hat that is authentically you. We’ll help you select the material, color, shape, decorations, and overall style and feel. Bringing the hat to life is the most exciting part of the process and we look forward to sharing it with you. Each hat is meticulously made by hand. We shape each hat, sew in the sweatbands, and custom build each hatband out of upcycled leather, horse tack, vintage ribbon and fabric. Before all of that, we block and pounce (sand) the felt and then set it on fire (probably our favorite part). When it’s all said and done, you’re left with an authentic, handmade, one-of-a-kind, wearable piece of art.

The Process

  • Step 1. Your Vision

Choose your hat shape and color, brim style, and decorations. (Feel free to share examples of hats that you like.) Decide on the type of felt (more info on this below) as well as any add-ons. If you’re unsure, we can discuss during the consult.

  • Step 2. Get in the Queue

Make a deposit of $150 to reserve your spot. The balance (including any add-ons) will be billed once the hat is complete.

  • Step 3. Measure Your Head

If you are local to the Boise area, we can schedule a time for you to stop by for us to measure your head using a conformer. This will give us an exact tracing of the shape of your head. Not local? Fret not—we’ll discuss during our consult how you can get a precise measurement of your head.

  • Step 4. Collaboration

We’ll schedule a consult to discuss exactly what you’re looking for, from the shape and style of the hat to the color of felt and decorations. This is how we ensure you end up with a hat that is an authentic extension of your personal style. We’ll also discuss details such as add-ons, upgrades in felt, and timing for completing your hat. Consults can take place via phone, text, video, email, or in person if you’re local.

  • Step 5. We Do Our Thing

Here’s when we get to work! Depending on how many hats are in the queue ahead of yours, we may not get started right away. Rest assured, we’ll keep you posted on timing and will let you know once we get your hat blocked.

  • Step 6. We Ship It or You Pick It Up

Once you pay the balance, we’ll ship your new favorite hat or you can stop by to pick it up if you’re local to Boise.

Pricing

Every custom hat includes a sweatband, satin hat liner, and hatband made from horse tack leather, fabric, and feathers.

Upgrades:
I have an assortment of vintage belts that I often use in place of horse tack leather. If we (you and I) choose to use a vintage belt you will be charged for the cost of the belt, which typically average between $15-45.

I also have various vintage hat pins available. These are priced individually and can be added to your custom.

I also welcome you to send me anything you would like me to work with when designing your band (feathers, pins, belts, family heirlooms, bolos, etc). I love working with items that have special meaning to my customers.
